Yesterday evening, collegiate and alumnus brothers gathered at our new house at 10819 Magnolia Drive for an alumni happy hour as part of our OX Roast weekend. Brothers and guests were able to tour the house, talking through ideas for the future, and of course, reminisce about their own time living in the chapter house. Brother Marty Witczak (1998) and several collegiate brothers played music for those gathered while other brothers provided tours of the house. We were also joined by International Historian James “Jim” McMahon (Zeta Epsilon/Long Beach State 1979).
Brother Louis Campbell (1999) officially opened the capital campaign and accepted the first donation from Dr. Richard F. Drushel (1984), long-time faculty advisor for the chapter. Dr. Drushel donated $6000, making him the first entrant to the Sigma Tau Delta giving level. Dr. Drushel told the audience his Theta Chi story and how he was asked by then-collegiate brothers to serve as the faculty advisor in Fall 1998- interestingly, while Brother Campbell was serving as president of the chapter.
Afterwards, Brother Robert “DV” DiVincenzo (1976) told the audience the history of the Beta of Theta Chi Alumni Corporation, how we were able to buy the house. Brother Walter Mahovlich (1974) spoke about other ways to be involved, including volunteering with the Chapter Advisory Board.
Many other brothers made donations and pledges to the campaign this evening and have helped to make this opening a huge success! On behalf of the capital committee, I’d like to thank everyone who showed up this evening to support the chapter- whether that was in the form of a monetary donation, updating contact information for brothers you’re in touch with, or sharing your knowledge and expertise. Your support is truly appreciated.
We’d also like to give a special thanks to everyone who helped make this event happen- Marty Witczak, Walt Mahovlich, Dale Pulver (1983), the members of the housing corporation, capital committee, and chapter advisory board, and the collegiate brothers.
